"We are going to ask for 'Mexican America' to appear": Sheinbaum responds to Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico

The president announced that she will show the letter she will send to the platform on Thursday.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reported on Wednesday that, through the Foreign Ministry, they are drafting a document that will be sent to Google after its announcement to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on Google Maps in the US, following President Donald Trump's decree on the matter.
In her morning press conference, the president indicated that with the letter they seek to corroborate with the company that it is aware of the composition of the seas, so that it is clear "what is the continental shelf, what is the economic zone (...) territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone and international sea."

"We are sending a letter to Google, first, to say, well, I suppose that Google Maps will know this international division, it will also know which organization names the international seas," he said.
He emphasized that "in order to change the name of an international sea, well, it is not a country that changes it, it is an international organization."
In this regard, she said that Trump's decree "has to do with its continental shelf, which is different from everything else in the Gulf."
Sheinbaum said that on Thursday she will show, in her morning press conference, the letter that she hopes to send to Google on Wednesday. "Because it is important that everything is put, as we say, in its proper context, according to the publications," she said.

"When you type Mexican America, the map will appear," she said at the press conference, thus recalling the proposal she made when she rejected the change of name of the Gulf presented by Trump.
On January 8, Sheinbaum showed a map from 1607, where North America is called Mexican America, "which is the same title that the Constitution of Apatzingán has."
